Morning Tailgate: On Kaepernick's Confidence

Posted Nov 12, 2013

Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday that his quarterback and the offense as a whole have the right attitude about getting back on track.

A road game in New Orleans wouldn't seem to be the best remedy for a 49ers team coming off its first loss in six games.

But it could be just the thing.

"We know what that building is like," Jim Harbaugh said on KNBR on Tuesday morning regarding the Saints Mercedes-Benz Superdome. "It’s a loud, chaotic environment. It’s a big task because we’re playing a very good football team and our team will be excited about that challenge.

"The most productive thing is to dive back into the work. The preparation is going to involve some sweat and some work."

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick, one of the team's hardest workers in his coach's eyes, will face a defense that causes "havoc."

This isn't something Kaepernick hasn't seen. The third-year pro made his second NFL start at New Orleans in Week 12 of 2012, scoring two touchdowns in a 31-21 win.

Harbaugh said he is not concerned with his quarterback's self-assuredness.

"He's a very confident guy, but it's not a self-centered confidence," the coach said. "It's a team confidence, it's a confidence in his ability."
