Morning Tailgate: Combine WRs to Watch

Posted Feb 13, 2014

Which wide receivers have the most to prove at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine?

Which wide receivers have the most to prove at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine?

Mike Huguenin of NFL.com has an idea.

According to the NFL scribe, the deep receiver class has a big opportunity to grab attention and move and down draft boards while in Indianapolis.

In particular, Huguenin wants to see the performances of Wisconsin's Jared Abbrederis, Wyoming's Robert Herron, Vanderbilt's Jordan Matthews, Mississippi's Donte Moncrief, Penn State's Allen Robinson and Clemon's Sammy Watkins.

Watkins is considered to be the top receiver in the draft.

"He is expected to turn in a great 40 time. His agility looks good, too. In short, he should be a combine standout," Huguenin wrote.

Some are wondering if the Clemson play-maker can best Marquis Goodwin's 4.27, 40-yard dash back in 2013. The former Texas standout was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the draft.

Watkins won't have to wait that long to hear his name called. The only question is which team will make him a top-10 draft pick.

More 49ers headlines can be found in today's Morning Tailgate, presented by State Farm.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee looked at the future of the 49ers running back depth.

Barrows also offered his views after touring Levi's® Stadium.

Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle toured the building as well.

So did Kevin Lynch of SFGate.com, Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News, Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com and Janie McCauley of the Associated Press.

49ers.com offered 18 takeaways from the tour and also interviewed Ian Williams on his rehab progress.
