Morning Tailgate: Are 49ers Ready for New Home?

Posted Jan 23, 2014

San Francisco's players spoke about the prospect of playing their home games in the same city they train and practice.

If there are silver linings to the 49ers shorter-than-expected season – and, sure, you have to look hard for them – one should be pretty clear-cut.

San Francisco, from players to coaches, has more time to shift to Santa Clara.

The team will play all of its home games in 2014 at Levi’s® Stadium, next door to where it already practices and trains.

“It’s kind of like starting over again,” tight end Vance McDonald said, wrapping up his rookie season. “Now we have new turf, new ground, steps through history with a new team.”

Added veteran outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks: “I can’t wait to play next year.”

In addition to the simple anticipation, there will be necessary planning ahead.

Jim Harbaugh was asked how much he and the team’s football staff will be in deciding what goes where at Levi’s®, including the players’ locker room.

“There is going to be some strategy there,” he said, “and I’ll get into it now that the season’s over.”

“We’ll make good decisions. We’ll make good decisions as an organization, together, as we’ve always strived to do.”
