The 49ers returned for their first full day of work Thursday, as they prepare for Sunday’s regular season finale opposite the Cardinals.
There’s little doubt entering the matchup how much respect San Francisco (11-4) has for Arizona (10-5), particularly following its Week 16 road win over NFC West leader Seattle (12-3).
“Great football fight by them,” said Jim Harbaugh, who called his players back into meetings on the afternoon of Christmas Wednesday. “They fought right until the final gun, much like our team, what we’re most pleased by our team in this game. The fight that they had to win. The importance to give great attention to every snap and fight to the end.”
With playoff implications on the line – Arizona needs to win to have a chance of cracking the postseason – Harbaugh and Co. expect the kind of game these two teams played in Week 6.
The 49ers bested the Cardinals, 32-20, at Candlestick Park on Oct. 13, but only put away their visitors after a grueling, 18-play drive in the fourth quarter.
Harbaugh said he had already found the occasion Monday to review video of Arizona’s impressive game in Seattle.
“Continuing to play very well,” he said of coach Bruce Arians’ team. “Very aggressive defense. Very stingy defense, attacking defense. Offensively, playing very well. Improving, ascending team.”For more storylines surrounding the team, check out this edition of Morning Tailgate links, presented by State Farm.
