Win, and we’re in.
The San Francisco 49ers can clinch a playoff berth in the final regular season game at Candlestick Park with a victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
The 49ers could have clinched on Sunday with an Arizona loss, but the resilient Cardinals beat the Seahawks and Russell Wilson at Century Link Field, handing Seattle a loss at home for the first time in two seasons.
With that result, the 49ers are still in play for the NFC West crown, the NFC’s No. 1 seed, home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and potential playoff games at The ‘Stick.
Yes, that can happen…
If San Francisco wins both games and Seattle loses at home to a surging St. Louis team in Week 17, the 49ers will win the NFC West for a third consecutive season. San Francisco will also earn a first-round bye.
If all that goes down and the Carolina Panthers lose at home against the Falcons in Week 17, the 49ers would finish as the NFC’s No. 1 seed.
The 49ers need help in those aforementioned scenarios, but a win on “Monday Night Football” guarantees that the team’s quest for a sixth Super Bowl can resume.
San Francisco’s front office is urging fans to arrive early for Monday's game:
The game will start at 5:40 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid the rush-hour commute period. All parking lots and stadium gates will open an hour earlier than usual on Monday.
