Mario Manningham, Reinforcements on the Way

Mario Manningham and three other notable members of the 49ers could return to practice as early as next week.

San Francisco’s 53-man roster could look very different in a matter of weeks.

Reinforcements are on the way.

Most notably, veteran wide receiver Mario Manningham is one of many 49ers who could be activated off the team’s Physically Unable to Perform list.

In addition, rookie defensive linemen Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial, plus free agent signee Eric Wright, could all join Manningham at practice next week.

“Excited about that,” Harbaugh said.


Once activated off the PUP list, the 49ers have a three-week window to activate the players on to the 53-man roster.

“We’re counting down the days,” Harbaugh said of the possibility of adding quality players to the team’s already deep roster. “We’re counting down the weeks and now down to one week.”

The key in determining the status of the four players will be practice capability and readiness to contribute on gameday.

“All those things will go into determining when exactly they head back to the 53,” Harbaugh said.
