Kaepernick, Boldin Take Turns as Reporters

Posted Jan 13, 2014

Colin Kaepernick and Anquan Boldin were loose and focused during their gameday and postgame duties with the 49ers.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 49ers were focused and loose all week leading up to a road playoff game against the Carolina Panthers.

Those characteristics showed up in the respective postgame press conferences of Anquan Boldin and Colin Kaepernick.

After Boldin’s eight-catch, 136-yard outing in a 23-10 victory over the Panthers, the veteran receiver fielded questions inside of a cramped visiting interview room.

To Boldin’s surprise, the final question came from his starting quarterback, who was tucked away in the corner of the room behind a handful of reporters. Kaepernick’s impersonation was his second of the day. After scoring on a 4-yard rushing touchdown, he cleverly imitated Cam Newton’s celebratory move with a hybrid celebration of his own.

“Anquan, What was your mentality coming into this game?” asked San Francisco’s signal-caller with a borrowed notepad in hand.

Boldin looked to his right and saw his snapback-wearing quarterback acting like a hard-hitting journalist.

“We talked about that earlier,” said Boldin, doing his best not to laugh.

“I wasn’t here, can you please repeat yourself?” Kaepernick fired back.

The 49ers wideout paused and replied, “Fight.”

Kaepernick even jotted down the response on the notepad of San Jose Mercury News beat writer Cam Inman.

As the 49ers wideout left the podium he looked at his quarterback and said, “I got the first question.”

The room of reporters chuckled, but Boldin was serious.

“Colin, why didn’t you throw the ball to Anquan earlier?”

Kaepernick responded.

“He was talking about my momma.”

Loose and focused? Yes, definitely.
