Jim Harbaugh, 49ers 3-0 versus Green Bay Packers

Posted Jan 2, 2014

49ers.com looks back on San Francisco's last three matchups, all wins, versus Mike McCarthy's NFC South squad.

For the fourth time in 480 days on Sunday, the 49ers and the Green Bay Packers will play a football game.

To borrow Jim Harbaugh's thinking, this is the most important one because it's the next one.

And the previous three, all San Francisco victories, may not have much bearing on this Wild Card round playoff opener.

“I can’t find an advantage for either team right now,” Harbaugh said when asked what the familiarity would do for his players.

It's worth considering, however, that the 49ers have beaten their longtime winter rival in different ways since Harbaugh took the helm in 2011.

In 2012, Alex Smith outplayed Aaron Rodgers in his smart, efficient fashion. In last season's playoffs, Colin Kaepernick racked up 181 rushing yards on the read-option. In this season's opener, Kaepernick used his arm, racking up 208 of his 412 passing yards with Anquan Boldin.

How does the coach view Sunday's opponent?

“I think they’re an excellent football team and we have great respect for them as a team,” Harbaugh said. “I don’t know about any other way to determine it than that, but that’s what it is.”

With that, 49ers.com looks back...
