The 49ers could place the third-year linebacker on the Reserve/NFI list, but Jim Harbaugh didn’t make an official announcement on Monday.
Instead, Harbaugh said the media would be informed at an appropriate time.
“It was addressed last night after the ball game,” Harbaugh said of Smith, who was arrested on Friday. “We’re in full support of Aldon.”
Smith did not miss a defensive snap in Sunday’s 27-7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He finished the game with five tackles and later apologized in the locker room for his actions.
“We did what we felt was in the best interest of the team and the player long-term,” Harbaugh said when asked about the decision to play Smith.

Harbaugh felt like Smith’s role in the game wasn’t worth reviewing 24 hours later.
“We’ve hashed through it,” Harbaugh said. “Aldon’s taking steps and we support him in that.
“We’ll respect the process.”

“Know they’ll do a good job,” Harbaugh said.
Per York, Smith will not be with the team this week when the 49ers travel to St. Louis for a Thursday night game.
Harbaugh stressed that the key to bouncing back from a 1-2 start is to be more precise on both sides of the ball.
“We’re not going to hang our heads,” he said. “We’re going to keep working.”
