Harbaugh 'Hopeful' about Aldon Smith's Return

Posted Oct 22, 2013

The 49ers coach said he anticipated meeting with his Pro Bowl linebacker next month.

It was no surprise that 49ers players Patrick Willis, Daniel Kilgore and Quinton Patton had many family and friends in the stands for the team's 31-17 over the Titans on Sunday.

They're Tennessee natives.

The appearance of Aldon Smith's mom was a welcomed surprise for Jim Harbaugh and San Francisco.

"It's always good to play well and win for our familiries that are in the midwest, the East Coast and the south," the 49ers coach said.

Regarding Smith, a Missouri native with Mississippi ties, Harbaugh said he was "hopeful" that his All-Pro outside linebacker would play again this season and sooner rather than later. ESPN's Adam Schefter had reported on Oct. 13 that the team was not counting Smith's return to the field in 2013.

Smith is currently on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List following his Sept. 20 arrest.

Harbaugh added that he could meet with Smith at the team's facility in Santa Clara next month.

“I’m not real knowledgeable on exactly when that’s going to be, but I think that's at some point here in the next couple weeks,” Harbaugh said. “I hear things are going very well."
