August 19: DL Dorsey Signed

The San Francisco 49ers have signed DL Glenn Dorsey to a two-year contract extension through the 2016 season.

"Glenn is a true pro who has quickly become a valued contributor to our organization both on and off the field," said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. "He is a quick study and a very good football player that has earned this extension, and we look forward to his future contributions."

During his first season with San Francisco in 2013, Dorsey (6-1, 297) appeared in all 16 regular season games (13 starts), in addition to the team's three (two starts) postseason contests. He recorded two sacks, tallied 100 tackles for the first time in his career and helped the team rank fourth in rushing yards allowed per game (95.9) in the NFL. He was also selected by his coaches and teammates as the 49ers Defensive Blue Collar Player of the Year.

July 23: LB Costanzo to IR, LB Wilson Signed

The San Francisco 49ers have signed LB Kion Wilson to a one-year deal. To make room on the roster, the team has placed LB Blake Costanzo on the Injured Reserve List.

Williams, an undrafted fourth-year pro, earned San Francisco's starting nose tackle position following a challenging training camp battle with incoming veteran Glenn Dorsey.

July 29: RB Smith Signed, G Fonoti Waived

The 49ers signed running back Alfonso Smith to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team has waived/injured guard Fouimalo Fonoti.

Smith originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He spent four seasons with the Cardinals, playing in 43 games and registering 48 carries for 156 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 13 special teams tackles. In 2013, Smith appeared in all 16 regular season games and registered 18 carries for 54 yards and one touchdown and had six special teams tackles. July 23: Bowman to PUP List
On the same day the San Francisco 49ers reported for training camp, the team placed NaVorro Bowman on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List. The All-Pro inside linebacker, who suffered a devastating knee injury in San Francisco's NFC Championship game loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 19, is now eligible to be activated at any point in training camp.
