Here’s what general manager Trent Baalke said of Wright when the 49ers signed him on Aug. 8.

“We are pleased to welcome Eric to the 49ers organization and look forward to his contributions,” Baalke said in a statement released by the team. “Eric is currently tending to a personal matter and he will join the team as soon as possible.”

Wright, a San Francisco native, has started in a combined 81 games for the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s totaled 336 tackles and 14 interceptions in six seasons.

Wright was almost acquired by the 49ers via trade, but failed his physical and reverted back to Tampa Bay. Following his release from the Bucs, Wright signed with the 49ers earlier in the month and was away from the team tending to a personal matter.

Now that Wright is on the NFI list, he cannot practice with the 49ers until after Week 6 of the regular season.
