The San Francisco 49ers quarterback was joined by friends, family and nearly 200 golfers at the Del Rio Country Club in Modesto, Calif., for a round of golf, a private dinner and memorable silent auction. The successful tournament continued its important mission of raising funds to offer free programs for children with heart disease and their families. The tournament raised more than $900,000 for Camp Taylor over its first three years. Kaepernick has been steadfast in his support of Camp Taylor since joining the NFL in 2011.
“It gives you that perspective on what’s really important in life, what really means the most and where focus and time should really be spent,” Kaepernick said via the Modesto Bee. “These are kids that from the time they were born were dealt a difficult hand. They’re succeeding. They’re winning. I don’t think you can put a price or a priority above that.”
Camp Taylor's executive director and founder, Kimberlie Gamino, told the Bee that the nonprofit is very close to moving into a new home at the former Stanislaus County Honor Farm in Modesto. Camp Taylor currently offers nine sessions for the under-served population of pediatric cardiology.
“We hope to be running camps there next year,” Gamino said. “Colin’s support means a lot to the progress on that.”
