Bruce Miller injured his scapula in Sunday’s 33-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jim Harbaugh said the 49ers fullback’s injury “doesn’t look good.”

"It looks like he has an injury to his scapula."

The 49ers coach didn’t want to reveal if the third-year pro is out for the season, but it sounded like Miller’s return to the field is unlikely this season.

“We have a pretty good idea," Harbaugh said. "We won’t say anything officially, but it doesn't look good for now.

"It's something he'll heal from."

Harbaugh said it didn't look like Miller could return for the playoffs.

San Francisco will bring back former Harbaugh pupil Owen Marecic for a workout.

“Owen Marecic is hopefully en route,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll look at our options.”

Fourth-year running back Anthony Dixon, the team’s backup fullback, is another option.

Lastly, Harbaugh said the 49ers could rely on creative offensive personnel groupings to account for Miller’s unique contributions to the offense (25 catches for 243 yards).

"He does so many things in the protection, in the run game, receiving out of the backfield. He is a talented, multi-use player. Special teams contributor on two-three phases. It's a loss."
