49ers Sign S Ventrone; Waive FB Schepler

The San Francisco 49ers have signed S Raymond Ventrone to a one-year contract.

 

The San Francisco 49ers have signed S Raymond Ventrone to a one-year contract. In order to make room for Ventrone on the roster, the team has waived FB Jason Schepler.

Ventrone (5-10, 200) has played in 73 career games with the New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns, registering 50 career tackles and 39 special teams stops. He originally entered in the league in 2005 as an undrafted free agent with the Patriots. Ventrone spent time on the Patriots and New York Jets practice squads before making his NFL debut with the Patriots in 2007. He was released by the Patriots on September 5, 2009, and later signed with the Browns on September 16, 2009. Ventrone spent the last four seasons in Cleveland. In 2012, he appeared in 12 games and recorded seven special teams tackles.

A 30-year-old native a Pittsburgh, PA, Ventrone attended Villanova University, where he appeared in 35 games and notched 251 tackles, 2.0 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and 11 passes defensed in is four-year career.

Schepler (6-2, 274) originally signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 14.
