Posted Sep 1, 2014

The San Francisco 49ers selected 12 players in this year's NFL Draft, all of whom are still on the team's roster heading into the regular season.

To examine the San Francisco 49ers 12-man NFL Draft class, 49ers.com checked in with a college coach of each pick. Here are condensed versions of all the profiles...

1st Pick: DB Jimmie Ward

College coach:
Rod Carey, Northern Illinois head coach

Quote to note: “If he didn't agree with something, he would say, 'I don't know, what about this, coach?' And sometimes I would go to him, and he would give me his opinion. Everything that you want out of a college senior, you got with Jimmie Ward.” Read full story.

2nd Pick: RB Carlos Hyde

College coach:

Stan Drayton, Ohio State assistant coach

Quote to note: “You can tell that he is built to play running back. The squatty body time, the frame, and he’s agile. He has good speed and acceleration, and he has very natural instincts making reads behind the line of scrimmage. He knows how to play on contact.” Read full story.

3rd Pick: C Marcus Martin

College coach: Mike Summers, former USC offensive line coach

Quote to note: “Marcus, I can see continuing on his path to being a great pro. He has just reached the tip of what he can achieve. All of his football is in front of him. I think the 49ers are going to get a lot out of this draft pick.” Read full story.

4th Pick: LB Chris Borland

College coach:
 Gary Anderson, Wisconsin head coach

Quote to note: “There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll be a very good pro. I don’t think he’ll be a role player in the NFL – I think he’ll be a starter and play at a very high level.” Read full story.

5th Pick: OT Brandon Thomas

College coach:
 Dabo Swinney, Clemson head coach

Quote to note: “His versatility is why he’s going to be a great pro. I think he can legitimately play left tackle or right tackle. He’s got great length, athleticism, technique and power.” Read full story.

6th Pick: WR Bruce Ellington

College coach:
Steve Spurrier, South Carolina head coach

Quote to note: “He’s just a tremendously well-conditioned athlete. He can run all day. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him tired. He’s first in line... He can have an outstanding NFL career.” Read full story.

7th Pick: CB Dontae Johnson

College coach:
Clayton White, North Carolina State secondary coach

Quote to note: “His length as a corner always helped him out. To me, the most impressive thing Dontae had was his versatility. At any time of the game, he could play all three positions in the secondary.” Read full story.

8th Pick: LB Aaron Lynch

College coach:
Willie Taggart, South Florida head coach

Quote to note: “When he was drafted, I thought it was a steal. I know the way coach (Jim) Harbaugh is – he’s going to bring to best out of Aaron. And I know how Aaron is, too, he wanted that. I’m excited for him... I just think the sky’s the limit for him.” Read full story.

9th Pick: CB Keith Reaser

College coach:
Jared Allen, former Florida Atlantic assistant coach

Quote to note: “He was just a guy who was long and it was hard for receivers to get a good release off of him. And he had great ball skills; he could always make plays when the ball was around him. Some defensive backs don’t have those ball skills, but Keith did.” Read full story.

10th Pick: CB Kenneth Acker

College coach:
Derrick Odum, Southern Methodist secondary coach

Quote to note: “I definitely saw that he had some things that would really project well to the NFL. If he could keep it together for four years and develop, he had a great chance of being drafted. He had great ball skills and he was really competitive.” Read full story.

11th Pick: DE Kaleb Ramsey

Player source:
 Jeff Ramsey, Kaleb's father

Quote to note: “He has a lot of perseverance. I’m so glad he still has the same drive that he had when he first went to Boston College. Going through what he did and having the achievement of being drafted, that has paid off supremely for him." Read full story.

12th Pick: FB Trey Millard

College coach:
 Bob Stoops, Oklahoma head coach

Quote to note: “In my mind, he was the most important guy we had the past couple of years on our team. It was not just because of leadership, but because of all the different positions he played, and he’d been our best special teams guy over the past few years as well.” Read full story.
