The San Francisco 49ers announced they have re-signed CB Carlos Rogers to a four-year contract.
“We are extremely pleased to re-sign an All-Pro player like Carlos,” said 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke. “His leadership and performance were integral to our success as a team. We look forward to his continued contributions, both on and off the field.”
After joining the 49ers as a free agent on August 3, 2011, Rogers (6-0, 192) went on to start all 16 regular season games and two postseason contests. He hauled in a career-high six interceptions, while earning AP Second-Team All-Pro honors and being named a starter in his first Pro Bowl. Rogers tallied 57 tackles, 18 passes defensed and was part of a dominant defense by the 49ers that ranked second in the NFL with 104 passes defensed.
Rogers was originally drafted in the first round (ninth overall) by the Washington Redskins in the 2005 NFL Draft. He has played in 94 games (84 starts), registering 375 tackles, 14 interceptions (returning two for touchdowns), four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 94 passes defensed. Rogers’ 94 passes defensed rank ninth in the NFL since 2005.
In 2010, Rogers played in 12 games (12 starts) and notched 54 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and 12 passes defensed. He tallied 39 tackles, two fumble recoveries and 12 passes defensed in 16 games (15 starts) in 2009. A year earlier, Rogers played in all 16 games (14 starts), setting a career high and ranking tied for first in the NFL with 24 passes defensed. He set a career-high with 88 tackles, in 2006.
The 31-year old native of Augusta, GA, starred collegiately at Auburn and was the recipient of the 2004 Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation’s top defensive back.
