Free Ticketed Event to be Held on 49ers Practice Field in Santa Clara

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Friday a unique, first of its kind, 49ers fan event – Super Bowl Under the Stars – to be held at the Santa Clara Training Facility on Saturday, July 23, 2011. Gates will open at 8:00 p.m. for the free ticketed event, which will run until approximately 11:15 p.m.

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the 49ers first Super Bowl victory, the night will be highlighted by a special screening of Super Bowl XVI on the 49ers practice field, starting at 8:30 p.m. There will also be special pre-movie and intermission entertainment for those in attendance.

“We’re excited to offer a truly unique outdoor event for our Faithful fans and their families to celebrate the great tradition of the San Francisco 49ers,” said Paraag Marathe, Chief Operating Officer of the 49ers. “Not only did Super Bowl XVI serve as a catalyst for San Francisco’s five Super Bowl championships, but it was a thrilling game that made for an NFL classic. 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of our first Super Bowl, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate it by watching the game, under the stars, right here at our 49ers headquarters.”

This family-friendly event for 49ers fans will feature meet and greets with 49ers alumni, the Gold Rush and Sourdough Sam.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the show, while special 49ers Snuggies will be on sale at the event as well. Movie Night goodies, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn and candy will be available. However, no coolers or outside food and beverages will be allowed through the gates.

Tickets for the event are now SOLD OUT. Free parking will be available adjacent to the 49ers facility.

About the 1981 San Francisco 49ers

After losing two of their first three contests, the 49ers went on to win 15 of their last 16 games under the direction of third-year head coach, Bill Walsh. The team, which combined three rookie starters in the defensive secondary (S Carlton Williamson, CB Eric Wright and CB Ronnie Lott) with the likes of QB Joe Montana, WR Dwight Clark, G Randy Cross, WR Freddie Solomon, S Dwight Hicks, LB Keena Turner, DE Fred Dean and LB Jack “Hacksaw” Reynolds, formed a nucleus of world championship vintage. The season culminated with the 49ers 26-21 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XVI. The game featured the 49ers legendary ‘goal-line stand’ and a total of five takeaways by San Francisco on the day. On offense, Montana was named Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 157 yards and one touchdown, adding 18 yards on the ground and another score.
