49ers Place NaVorro Bowman, Glenn Dorsey on Injured Reserve

The San Francisco 49ers placed NaVorro Bowman and Glenn Dorsey on injured reserve. Marcus Cromartie and guard Andrew Tiller have been promoted to the active roster.


The San Francisco 49ers have promoted cornerback Marcus Cromartie and guard Andrew Tiller to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. In order to make room on the roster, the team has placed linebacker NaVorro Bowman and defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey on the Injured Reserve List.

Cromartie (6-0, 195) was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Diego Chargers on April 27, 2013, and was signed to the team’s practice squad the following training camp. Cromartie was later promoted to the Chargers active roster on December 17, 2013, where he spent the rest of the season. He was waived by San Diego on September 23, 2014, and signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad on October 29, 2014. Cromartie was later released by Cleveland on October 30, 2014, and was signed to the 49ers practice squad on December 13, 2014.

A 24-year-old native of Mansfield, TX, Cromartie played collegiately at Wisconsin, where he appeared in 39 games and registered 113 tackles, 16 passes defensed, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. As a senior, Cromartie earned All-Big 10 honors.

Cromartie will wear No. 47.

Tiller (6-4, 324) was originally drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round (179th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. After spending the 2012 season with New Orleans, he was waived on August 31, 2013. He was signed to the San Diego Chargers practice squad on September 25, 2013 and was later released on November 18. He was signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad on November 20, 2013, where he spent the remainder of the season. Tiller was later released by the Packers on August 30, 2014, and was signed to the 49ers practice squad on October 7, 2014

A 25-year-old native of Brentwood, NY, Tiller attended Syracuse University where he was an All-Big East First-Team selection in 2011.

Tiller will wear No. 61.

Bowman (6-0, 242) was added to the 53-man roster from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List on December 9, 2014. He was originally drafted by the 49ers in the third round (91st overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He appeared in all 64 games (49 starts) from 2010 to 2013 and started every game in which he appeared each of the past three seasons. Bowman registered career highs in tackles (192), sacks (5.0), forced fumbles (four) and interceptions (two) in 2013. He was selected First-Team All-Pro in 2011, 2012 and 2013, as well as the Pro Bowl following the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Dorsey (6-1, 297) was added to the 53-man roster from the Injured Reserve/Designated for Return List on November 17, 2014 and has been inactive in each of the team’s previous three games. He was originally drafted by the Chiefs in the first round (5th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft and joined the 49ers in 2013, after five seasons with Kansas City. He appeared in all 16 games (13 starts) and three postseason contests for San Francisco last season, registering a career-high 100 tackles and two sacks.
