The 49ers originally selected Smith in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. Smith has played in 43 games (24 starts), tallying 171 tackles, 42 sacks, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception. His 42 sacks are the second most in the NFL since he entered the league.
The 24-year-old native of Kansas City, Mo., played collegiately at the University of Missouri, where he appeared in 23 games (21 starts) for the Tigers and registered 112 tackles, 17 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception.
