The San Francisco 49ers have activated linebacker
Smith, the third-year linebacker, currently leads the team with 4.5 sacks despite not playing in the team's current five-game winning streak.
Smith, the former first-round pick in 2011, visited team headquarters on Wednesday and spoke with 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers coach discussed the meeting on a Bay Area radio station.
Harbaugh didn’t say when the 49ers third-year linebacker would return to the field.
“I think the prudent thing to do is look at it day-to-day and have a goal of having a great day,” Harbaugh said. “He’s been taking that approach, really over the last five weeks. And it’s served him well and he’s quite a bit of progress.”
The 49ers return to the field to host the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 10.
