4 Best Players to Suit up for Both 49ers, Cowboys

Start the list with pass-rusher Charles Haley, who won Super Bowls in both San Francisco and Dallas.

With the San Francisco 49ers facing the Dallas Cowboys for the first time since 2011 to open the '14 regular season on Sunday, the time is right to review the best four players to play for both teams.

Depending upon how he does in Dallas, safety C.J. Spillman, who went from the 49ers to the 'Boys this week, could contend to join this list in the future...



1. Charles Haley

San Francisco: 1986-1991, '98-99

Dallas: 1992-96

Details: A fourth-round NFL Draft pick of the 49ers... Listed at both defensive end and outside linebacker... Recorded a career-high 16 sacks at age 26 in 1990... Traded to Dallas in '92... Wore jersey number 95 upon his return to 49ers in '98 before regaining his old digits in final NFL season... Finished with 100.5 sacks in 13-year career... A five-time Pro Bowler named an All-Pro twice... A five-time Super Bowl champion, winning his first two rings in San Francisco... Formerly an assistant coach with the Cowboys, was seen with current 49ers pass-rusher Aldon Smith at the "Legends of Candlestick" game earlier this year... Still waiting to join Pro Football Hall of Fame.


2. Ken Norton Jr.
 

San Francisco: 1994-2000

Dallas: 1988-1993

Details: A second-round NFL Draft pick of the Cowboys... Starred at middle linebacker... Recorded a career-high 159 tackles at age 27 in 1993... Joined San Francisco in the first year of free agency... Scored two touchdowns in '95... Accounted for 30 turnovers in 13-year career... Always wore number 51... A three-time Pro Bowler named an All-Pro once... A three-time Super Bowl champion, winning his rings in consecutive seasons... Now a linebackers coach for the Seattle Seahawks... He had held the same position for six seasons at USC; he's used to being on both sides of a rivalry, as he played collegiately at UCLA.


3. Terrell Owens

San Francisco: 1996-2003

Dallas: 2006-08

Details: A third-round NFL Draft pick of the 49ers... Used his 6-foot-3, 220-pound-plus frame well at wide receiver... Recorded a career-high 16 touchdowns at age 28 in 2001 after his 100-catch '00 campaign... Traded to Philadelphia in '04, signed by Dallas after being released two years later... Averaged 78 receptions and 13 touchdowns per season for the Cowboys... Racked up 1,078 and 153 overall in 15-year career that included stops in Cincinnati and Buffalo... Known as T.O. and for his "TD" celebrations, always wore number 81... A six-time Pro Bowler named an All-Pro five times... Caught nine balls for 122 yards in his lone Super Bowl appearance while playing through a broken fibula with the Eagles... Has appeared on reality TV.


4. Deion Sanders

San Francisco: 1994

Dallas: 1995-99

Details: The fifth overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft, made by the Atlanta Falcons... Employed his 6-foot-1 height and unique athleticism to become a shut-down cornerback, part-time wide reciever and return man... Joined Norton in San Francisco via free agency in '94... Recorded a career-high three touchdowns at age 27 during his six-interception, 14-game run with the 49ers... Signed with Dallas the next offseason... Collected 14 picks and two scores for the Cowboys, who gave him more of a shot to play wideout... Made career-high 36 catches, including a touchdown, on offense at 29 in '96... Didn't play 2001 through '03... Known as "Primetime," "Neon Deion" and for baseball skills as well as his high-stepping pick-sixes... Always wore number 21 until sporting 37 at age 37 with the Baltimore Ravens in 2004... An eight-time Pro Bowler named an All-Pro six times over a 14-year career with five teams overall... A two-time Super Bowl champ, snagging a ring in each city... Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011... Now an analyst for NFL Network.
