49ers Sign Free Agent K Andrus

Posted Mar 30, 2010

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have signed free agent PK Shane Andrus to a one-year deal.

Andrus (5-10, 190 – pronounced ANN-druss) saw action in the final game of the season for San Francisco in 2009, connecting on 4-of-4 PATs at St. Louis (1/3/10).

In June of 2009, Andrus signed with Indianapolis, the team that had originally inked him as an undrafted free agent in 2006, and made his NFL debut in Week 1 of the regular season. He was released the following week. Tampa Bay later signed Andrus on October 5, and he went on to play in three games, hitting 6-of-6 PATs and missing his only field goal attempt. He was released by Tampa Bay on November 3 before signing with the 49ers on January 2.

After signing with the Colts in 2006, Andrus was released by the team at the conclusion of training camp. Andrus re-signed with the Colts in February 2007 and was allocated to the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europa, where he connected on 14-of-17 field goal attempts. Upon returning to the Colts, he was released following training camp in 2007. Andrus signed with the N.Y. Giants in January 2008, and was released in February. He was claimed off waivers by Indianapolis only to be released before the start of training camp in June.

Andrus, a 29-year-old native of Murray, KY, played collegiately at Murray State, where he connected on 26-of-36 field goal attempts and 51-of-52 PATs.
