49ers Sign CB James

Posted May 11, 2010

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have signed CB William James to a one-year deal.

James (6-0, 200), who was a third-round selection (78th overall) by the New York Giants in the 2001 NFL Draft, has appeared in 92 games (60 starts) during his nine-year career. He has recorded 270 tackles, 51 passes defensed, eight interceptions, and one forced fumble.

James spent five seasons with the Giants before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, in 2006, where he played for two seasons. In 2008, James played in eight games with the Jacksonville Jaguars before landing with Detroit last season. He played in 16 games (14 starts) with the Lions and finished with 73 tackles and two interceptions.

James, a 30-year old from Uniontown, PA, spent two seasons at the University of Michigan and was a member of the 1997 national championship team. He transferred to Youngstown State in 1999 and later to Western Illinois, where he finished his career.
