This marks the second consecutive season that the 49ers and Packers have met in Week 1. Last season, San Francisco defeated Green Bay in two contests, 30-22 on the road in Week 1, and 45-31 at home in the NFC Divisional round of the playoffs. The 49ers overall record against the Packers is 28-34-1, including 17-11-1 at home.

  • Sun., Oct. 06, 2013 5:30PM - 8:30PM PDT 49ers vs. Texans San Francisco faces the Houston Texans on Sunday night October 6, in front of a national audience on NBC. It marks the third prime time appearance through the first five weeks of the regular season for the 49ers. This will be only Houston’s second trip ever to Candlestick Park in the regular season, and their first since the 49ers won 20-17 in overtime, in 2005.

San Francisco owns a 26-17 overall record against the Cardinals, including a 15-8 mark at home. In the 2012 regular season finale, San Francisco won 27-13, clinching the NFC West Division title for the 19th time in franchise history. The Niners have compiled a 7-1 record versus Arizona over the past eight games.

49ers Name Engram Offensive Assistant

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have named Bobby Engram offensive assistant.

Engram, 38, a 14-year NFL veteran, played wide receiver for the Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs from 1996-09. During his stint with the Seahawks, Engram spent eight seasons learning the nuances of the West Coast offense from head coach Mike Holmgren, offensive coordinator Gil Haskell and wide receivers coach Nolan Cromwell. He was extremely productive in Holmgren’s system, hauling in 399 receptions for 4,859 yards and 18 touchdowns during that span.

A veteran of nine NFL postseason contests, Engram appeared in one Super Bowl. He played in 176 career regular season games (113 starts), registering 650 receptions for 7,751 yards and 35 touchdowns. Engram enjoyed his most productive pro season in 2007, when he recorded 94 receptions for 1,147 yards and six touchdowns. He was the Seahawks recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award in 2005.

The Camden, SC, native starred collegiately at Penn State University where he was a three-time AP All-American (1993-95), three-time All-Big 10 selection (1993-1995) and the first recipient of the Biletnikoff Award in 1994. Engram finished his college career as the Nittney Lions all-time leader in receptions (167), receiving yards (3,026) and receiving touchdowns (31).

Although Engram enters just his first year of coaching, he has studied under a number of seasoned coaches throughout his college and professional careers – Kenny Jackson (1993-95, PSU), Ivan Fears (1996-98, Chi.), Mike Borich (1999-2000, Chi.), Nolan Cromwell (2001-07, Sea.), Keith Gilbertson (2008, Sea.) and Dedric Ward (2009, KC).
