49ers Sign T Barton to Practice Squad

The San Francisco 49ers announced today the signing of tackle Kirk Barton to the practice squad.

Barton (6-6, 300) was originally selected in the seventh round (247th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. Barton saw action in the Bears season opener and was waived the following week. He was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins and was inactive for four games before being waived. Barton was claimed again off waivers by the 49ers and was inactive for two games prior to being released. He was then signed to the Dolphins practice squad for two weeks, before he was signed to the Cincinnati Bengals active roster for the remainder of the season. Barton was claimed by the Detroit Lions in April 2009, and later released during training camp.

A 25-year-old, native of Massillon, OH, Barton played collegiately at Ohio State, where he was first-team All-Big 10 in 2007.
