RESPECT FOR SCHOOLS
“Seeing Both Sides”
In partnership with the San Francisco Education Fund Peer Resources Program, the 49ers created an educational, in-school video to encourage students to show respect for themselves and others by resisting violence as a means to resolve conflict. Titled “Seeing Both Sides,” the DVD features 49ers players and students from the Peer Resources Program discussing issues that surround conflict resolution. As part of the program students who view “Seeing Both Sides” are asked to create a poster and accompanying paragraph that relate to the theme of the video. Over 14,000 students participated involved in this initiative.
49ers Academy
Since opening in 1996, the 49ers Academy in East Palo Alto has received ongoing support from the 49ers organization. The school serves 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who benefit from a small, nurturing and personalized environment. The 49ers Academy provides a caring community where the emphasis is on one-on-one relationships to promote academic success in children who have struggled in other school systems.
Safety in Schools
Part of providing a safe school environment for children is making sure that students both arrive and depart schools in a safe fashion; the Club promotes America’s Safe Schools Week through its Safety Walk crossing guard effort and Safe Halloween activities.
