Ellison Named Kelly-Moore Paints HS Coach of the Week

Posted Oct 12, 2009

The San Francisco 49ers Charlie Wedemeyer Coach of the Week award presented by Kelly-Moore Paints for Week 6 goes to Steve Ellison from Petaluma High School.

This past Saturday, the Petaluma Trojans defeated Casa Grande 40-14.

In this annual meeting for the “Egg Bowl Trophy,” both teams entered the game with zero losses.

The first two quarters were fairly evenly matched, with neither team holding an advantage, going into the half tied at 14-14.

The second half, however, saw the Trojans score 26 points and Casa Grande unable to answer the bell.

Petaluma’s ground game led the way with the bruising, between the tackles portion handled by fullback Ricky Sims, and quick off tackle plays going to running back Sean Sullivan. Sullivan ended the evening with over 200 yards rushing, with Sims adding 74 of his own.

The Trojan defense also came out in the second half and played extremely well.

After allowing 14 first half points, the defense tightened in the second half and put to rest any hopes Casa Grande had of laying claim to the Egg Trophy in 2009.

In addition to being named Coach of the Week, Coach Ellison and the Petaluma High School football program will receive $1,000 from the 49ers Foundation, along with a $500 gift certificate from Kelly-Moore Paints to go towards beautifying Petaluma High School.
